10 Horror Movies That Have Never Officially Been Released

4. World War Z 2

The Collector 3
Paramount

On paper, World War Z had everything going for it. The 2013 release starred certified hunk Brad Pitt (no wonder the zombies wanted to bite him so badly) and was co-written by Lost creator Damon Lindelof.

Sadly, the original film opened to mixed reviews. However, more importantly, it made a butt-tonne of money and plans for a sequel were pushed through.

World War Z was originally envisioned as the beginning of a trilogy, a cross between The Bourne series and The Walking Dead according to one report. The second film in the proposed series was announced for release in 2017, but that year has been and gone and we haven't seen a single frame.

There were issues aplenty with the production of this film. Original director J. A. Bayona stepped away from the project and was replaced by David Fincher (imagine that). However, Fincher also walked away, choosing to focus instead on the TV show Mindhunter.

In the end, Paramount canned the film in 2019, citing the ban on zombie movies in China as its main reason. Pre-production did take place though, so maybe one day it too will rise from the grave.
