10 Horror Movies That Keep Tricking Viewers
8. Oxygen
In this sci-fi thriller, a woman awakens in a cryogenic chamber with no idea of who she is, why she's there, or how to get out. She has an AI to assist her, but it's programmed not to answer certain questions, making her current situation all the more cryptic. Worst of all, her pod is set to run out of air in two hours or less.
Since nothing is known about this woman at first, every piece of information feels like a curveball. When she starts to float, it becomes clear she's in space. After contacting the tech's manufacturer, she discovers her chamber was meant to be destroyed years ago. When she calls her home, a mysterious woman answers, informing her that her husband is dead. But when she learns her husband might be alive, our heroine has no idea what to believe anymore.
Just when it seems like a juicy detail is disclosed, it's completely contradicted five minutes later. As such, it feels like our amnesiac protagonist is further away from learning the truth than when her predicament started.
Although Oxygen is riveting from beginning to end, the avalanche of misdirection and twists is sure to keep anyone befuddled long after it's over.
