10 Horror Movies That Led To Massive Lawsuits

2. A 900 Million Dollar Lawsuit - The Conjuring

The Conjuring is famously based on the lives of Ed and Lorraine Warren, a pair of alleged real life demonologists who partnered with Warner Bros. to bring their stories to the big screen. It seemed like a solid partnership, with the three main instalments and their plentiful spin offs going to dominate the box office over the next decade.

The series faced some serious heat in 2016 though, when a stonking $900million lawsuit was filed against the studio. This came from Gerard Brittle who wrote a book all about the life of the Warrens and alleged to have had a deal with them that meant his consent was required should they ever look to sell their stories to Hollywood.

He claimed copyright infringement among other allegations to the tune of $900 million, however this was settled in late 2017 as the parties involved released a joint statement announcing that Brittle had dropped the lawsuit and that filing it in the first place "was a mistake".
