10 Horror Movies That Lied To You In The Title

7. Resolution (2012)

Directing duo Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead's first feature length film, Resolution, deals in many of the themes the pair have become known for in their career, fusing science-fiction, horror and personal drama in a digestible, human-centric package.

Seeking to save his drug addict friend Chris (Vinny Curran) from self-loathing and solitude, Michael (Peter Cilella) shows up at his bud's shack in the San Diego backwoods, tasers him and handcuffs him to the piping. As any good friend would. However, all isn't as simple as it seems, and creepy, nigh-unexplainable things begin to happen. A series of photos and videos show up, depicting arguments Chris and Michael have literally just had, from seemingly impossible viewpoints, as well as images of both of their deaths.

It is perhaps ironic then that the film is called Resolution, as, come the film's conclusion, all of the developed conflict -- including the means and machinations of the invisible entity who is stalking the main characters -- goes unresolved. In fact, it's worse than that, as we discover in Benson and Moorhead's The Endless (2017) that Chris and Michael actually enter into a perpetually unresolved time loop. There's no resolution at all -- and the directors darned well know this!
