If there's anything big name slasher franchises do well, it's bring their villain back for another scare, whether this is at the end of the film or in any number of sequels. And while postmodern takes on the genre like Scream (1996) have found a creative way of managing this without damaging the integrity of the series or our suspension of disbelief, the '80s were a different time.

Enter Friday the 13th, a series which gave us one of the most iconic villains ever -- Jason Voorhees -- over and over and over again. With three films under its belt in the preceding three years, the series hit 1984 with a fourth and purportedly final film that sought to kill Jason off for good. Part III (1983) was originally intended to be the final entry in the series, but this time they were going to make it stick, by having The Final Chapter in the actual title.

And die Jason does. But it is far from the final chapter. Part V: A New Beginning followed in 1985, where the kills are enacted by a copycat killer, and Part VI: Jason Lives arrived the year after, where... well, you get the picture.

All in all, The Final Chapter was only the fourth out of some 12 films to date...
