Erratic? Sure. Intense? Absolutely. Questionable in his methods? Undoubtedly. Also one of the most beloved characters in the history of the horror genre? 100%.

Donald Pleasance's Dr. Samuel Loomis holds a special place in the heart of many a horror hound. The long-time psychiatrist of Michael Myers, Loomis was seen hunting the infamous Shape across Halloween, Halloween II, Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers, Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers, Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers, and of course had a goosebumps-inducing cameo in last year's Halloween Kills - not to mention having outings in Rob Zombie's pair of Halloween pictures, as played by Malcolm McDowell.

While McDowell's Loomis was seen stabbed to death by Michael at the close of Zombie's Halloween II, the demise of Pleasance's Loomis is one of the missing key parts of the franchise.

In the Halloween H20 timeline, we're informed that the original iteration of Sam died of a heart attack between movies. Diving deeper on this, Stefan Hutchinson and Marcus Smith's Halloween: Sam short story detailed how this heart attack took place in front of Michael after Myers had butchered Sam's old friend, Elizabeth Worthington.

For the canon of David Gordon Green's recent Halloween pictures, Loomis actually stopped being Michael's doctor shortly after the events of the 1978 movie, and Sam would pass away a little further down the line.

Regardless, Halloween fans never got to see the truly final battle between Sam Loomis and his long-time obsession.
