10 Horror Movies That Should've Scrapped Their Opening Scene

9. Jigsaw

It's of course customary for each of the Saw films to kick off with a gnarly opening trap, but the series' eighth film Jigsaw does things a little differently, beginning instead with a more thriller-tinged sequence where the police chase down a perp, Edgar Munsen (Josiah Black).

The scene ends with Munsen using a device to trigger the start of a new Jigsaw game, moments before he's wounded by the police and the movie proper begins.

Except, this is the most anemic and least Saw-like opening of any Saw movie, feeling more like the start of a CSI episode in all honesty.

While Munsen does ultimately tie into Jigsaw's main narrative, the film desperately needed a punchier opening that gave audiences a brutal stinger in those first few minutes.

Instead, it lets fans know upfront that they're about to watch the tamest and most personality-devoid of all the Saw movies.
