10 Horror Movies That Sound Terrible (But Are Actually Great)

3. Sinister 2

Making a sequel to Sinister sounds like the worst idea ever. The original was fantastic, but it never seemed like something that had franchise potential. After all, it relied so heavily on the mystery, so what would be the point of making another one when we already know all the answers?

Sinister 2 is one of those movies you didn't realize you needed until you watch it. After the events of the original, this one follows a new family who moves into a house that's within Bagul's string of terror, and Deputy So & So tries to save them. Part of what's so great about it is that it expands on the mythology but without revealing too much. For example, it brings in the idea of music in conjunction with the murder videos, and the concept that Bagul may be able to affect victims through audio as well. Thankfully, though, viewers still leave with as many questions about the nature of Mr. Boogie as they had at the end of the first Sinister, and so the mystery is retained.

The sequel shows more of Bagul, but without showing him too often that he's not scary anymore. It's a rare second movie that feels necessary and that doesn't take things too far. After giving it a watch, seeing that 13% score on Rotten Tomatoes is pretty baffling.
