10 Horror Movies That Totally Confused You
1. I’m Thinking Of Ending Things
Looking at people’s takes on this, it becomes apparent that it was a very divisive film indeed. You either loved it in all its confounding artistic glory, or you hated it with every fibre of your being, and thought it should’ve been about 2 hours shorter.
The Charlie Kaufman feature has managed to net a pretty good reputation in spite of its haters, and its own confusing nature is what makes it - in the minds of some - a masterpiece. Initially the film sets out with a simple enough premise: a woman is going with her new boyfriend to meet his parents, but she is thinking of ending the relationship.
Honestly there is no simple way to summarise how the plot evolves and changes, and it would be impossible to try to list and rationalise every reference or homage. The film is packed full of non-linear narrative confusion, jarring visuals and periods of non-stop chat contrasted against tasteful, silent sections.
It’s a film that requires analysis and interpretation, it needs time to digest and ferment - it doesn’t become any less confusing once you’ve contemplated it for a while, but it definitely becomes more beautiful.
