10 Horror Movies That Use Your Imagination Against You

1. Wolf Creek (2005)

Being stranded in the middle of nowhere is the worst situation for horror characters to find themselves in. This is a lesson the backpackers from Aussie slasher Wolf Creek learn the hard way when they bump into sadistic killer Mick Taylor (John Jarratt) in the Australian outback.

After the group’s car breaks down, Mick (an amalgamation of real-life serial killers and Aussie stereotypes) arrives and tows them back to his camp where he offers to repair their vehicle. Everything seems to be going well until Mick drugs the travellers, destroying all hope of a miraculous rescue.

Later, Liz (Cassandra Magrath) wakes to witness the true horror of her situation. Watching her friend brutally assaulted by their captor, she manages to find a way for the pair to escape. Finding a new means to flee, Liz appears to have the upper hand until Mick suddenly appears behind her, severing her spine and turning into what he calls a “head on a stick”.

With documentary-style title card at the end unveiling that authorities were unable to find any trace of Nick or his victims, we dread to think about what twisted cruelty Liz suffered through before Mick (hopefully) put her out of her misery.
