10 Horror Movies That Wasted Brilliant Concepts

8. A Nightmare On Elm Street: Dream Warriors

Freddy Kreuger is without question one of, if not the, most iconic and recognisable villains in horror movie history. However, since his terrifying debut way back in 1984, there have been a staggering eight sequels and reboots that have taken the shine off the Elm Street franchise somewhat.

The third movie did at least have an interesting concept that could have made for a very different movie, and could have put Freddy in any number of situations that he had never been in before. This came by way of Freddy’s would-be victims wielding powers in their dreams they wouldn’t have otherwise had in real life.

Think about it; anything that Freddy could do to them could be cancelled out. He’s no longer praying on vulnerable children anymore, he’s picking a fight with what is essentially a bunch of superheroes. Though this was what the premise suggested at least, what was delivered was a far cry from what it could have been.

Even with these powers, the kids were useless against the villain, and it still came to someone else to defeat him while they slept. It begs the question, what was the point in giving the kids these abilities if they weren’t going to mean squat by the end of the movie?
