10 Horror Movies That Were Way Weirder Than Advertised

3. The Menu

Depicting a celebrity chef meting out retribution against those responsible for him losing his passion for cooking, The Menu is just as loopy as it sounds. In fact, that's a considerable understatement.

Promotional material for Mark Mylod's acclaimed outing promised weirdness from the entrées all the way to dessert. With that being said, the chaotic manner in which the trailers for the Ralph Fiennes-led horror comedy were shot made it exceedingly hard to pinpoint the movie's premise.

As such, when one of 2022's more outlandish offerings touched down, few viewers were prepared for what lay in wait for them. Suicidal sous-chefs, drowning men in angel wings and guests having fingers removed for attempting to leave - The Menu plays out like a frenzied bacchanalia for batsh*t crazy behaviour, with a healthy side of razor-sharp gallows humour and social critique.

What looked like a culinary revenge story transcended the bounds of what viewers were expecting in short order - both in terms of quality and sheer levels of strangeness. Featuring electric turns from Anya Taylor-Joy and Nicholas Hoult in addition to the aforementioned Fiennes, The Menu shines off the back of its own inherent and inimitable brand of weirdness.
