So many people dream of the perfect wedding. The image of walking down the aisle surrounded by flowers, adoring attendees, a beautiful venue and all the pomp and circumstance you can afford is something that's pumped into the heads of anyone who has ever watched TV, been to the theatre or read a romantic book.

That's what makes this movie so mean-spirited, as it contorts the idea of the perfect wedding night and turns it into a horror show.

Ready or Not follows a newlywed bride after her wedding ceremony. While everything seems picturesque at first, her night soon turns deadly as her new in-laws force her to play a violent game as part of a family ritual.

The movie plays with all the tropes of marriage and pokes fun at them with a tongue-in-cheek self-awareness. You thought you hated your in-laws? Well, imagine if they tried to kill you. Maybe those awkward dinners aren't so bad. It's this goofiness, supported by the film's wild violence and action, that makes it such a blast.

It's a film that makes the fear of commitment seem like a wise survival tactic rather than an irrational concern.
