In Irish horror The Hallow (helmed by Corin Hardy), conservationist Adam (Joeseph Mawle) learns the hard way that it's best not to mess with nature otherwise nature will mess with you.

A darkly comedic creature feature which features some seriously impressive practical effects, The Hallow sees Adam move to an idyllic house in the Irish countryside with his wife (Bojana Novakovic) and newborn son. He's there to research the woods in the surrounding area where he discovers a strange kind of fungus.

Despite various warnings from concerned locals not to interfere or trespass in the area, Adam dismisses them as nothing but superstition. This, it turns out, was a huge mistake. By ignoring the warnings, Adam invokes the wrath of seemingly unstoppable creatures known as The Hallow, baby-snatching creatures who'll do anything to get the family's baby for themselves.

From here the film becomes a gripping struggle for survival as the family's home is attacked by the creatures. Meanwhile, Adam undergoes a morbid transformation after being infected by the fungus.

With plenty of hair-raisingly suspenseful sequences, there's also a melancholic sadness to The Hallow as the family, who's fate is brought about by unfortunate circumstance, come to face the grim inevitability of their situation.
