10 Horror Movies That Will Make You Hate Nature
2. The Blair Witch Project (1999)
There are people out there who believe that spending time outdoors can be an enjoyable experience and that camping in the woods at night is fun.
These people haven't seen The Blair Witch Project, a low budget classic which played a vital role teaching audiences that the forest is a terrible place to visit.
The plot sees a trio of college students (Heather, Josh, and Mike) venture to the vast forest surrounding Burkittsville, Maryland in pursuit to document the folklore surrounding the titular Blair Witch.
Unsurprisingly, it turns out that hunting for a notorious witch alone in the woods wasn't such a great idea. Not long into their trip, the group hear strange sounds outside their tents and later discover disturbing objects. Moreover, their situation becomes more hopeless when the map mysteriously goes missing.
Made on a shoestring budget and with the actors filming themselves, The Blair Witch galvanised a genuine sense of realism to the events depicted - so much so that audiences believed the film to be true.
While other films like The Ritual and The Forest have likewise underlined the horrors lurking in the woods, none have come close to matching the slow-burn tension of The Blair Witch Project.
