10 Horror Movies That Will Make You Terrified Of Children

7. Children Of The Corn (1984)

Village Of The Damned
New World Pictures

Based on a short story by Stephen King, Children of the Corn was released in 1984, and was actually received quite negative by critics. Currently maintaining a rotten rating of 38% on rottentomatoes, the film was generally regarded as a slapdash attempt to capitalise on the popularity of the author, who was at the height of his popularity. As a result, it failed to connect with audiences at the time, and has slowly crawled further into obscurity ever since.

With that said, there are some genuinely great moments buried throughout, several of which relating to “he who walks behinds the rows”, a mysterious creature lurking somewhere in the cornfields, commanding the children to murder the adult population of the town. In the film, a married couple are viciously attacked, forced to fend for themselves against a mob of murderous cutthroats, each of which an innocuous looking child armed with a pitchfork.

Verdict: Dated, and not particularly scary, Children of the Corn is incredibly violent. There’s one scene in particular in which the children ransack a local diner, slashing throats and poisoning the inhabitants. If that alone doesn’t make you afraid of children, nothing will.
