10 Horror Movies Too Scary To Finish Watching

4. Ju-On: The Grudge (2002)

Nothing does it better than the classics, as Ju-On is an unbeatable J-horror icon.

For the uninitiated, the Ju-On series is a collection of terrifying films that show the effects of a curse placed on a house following a horrendous murder. The series typically shows unfortunate folk running into the spirits of the mother and son who died in this accident, resulting in their gruesome demise. There are thirteen Ju-On movies to date, including remakes, reboots and crossovers.

Despite the healthy selection of options, the movie that really gets your blood pumping hardest has to be the third instalment, The Grudge. It's a film so freaky that it terrified a generation and is often brought up in comparison with Pulse and Ringu as one of Japan's scariest horror movies. Which is saying a lot.

The film has plenty of gore and shocking imagery, but it's the horrific sense of dread and anticipation that really gets you with this one. It's an effective scary experience thanks to the atmosphere, solid camera work and terrifying ghostly performances. There's a lingering fear of what you'll see next, with the scares coming at you slowly, delivering a sense of melancholy alongside the terror.
