10 Horror Movies Where Everyone Dies
1. Night Of The Living Dead
There's a reason George A. Romero was known as the "Godfather of Zombies." It’s only fitting we end the list with one of the pioneering films of horror. Whilst not the first Zombie movie in existence, Night of the Living Dead brought mainstream terror and popularity to the genre, with a dark, petrifying and gruesome tale of woe that still holds up today.
In another pioneering decision, Duane Jones, a Black, unknown actor at the time, plays our hero Ben who stark contrasts Judith O’Shea’s distressed damsel Barbara, who you may have heard of from the iconic quote “they’re coming to get you Barbara!” parodied so many times since. Ben saves Barbara and they shack up with a small group of fellow survivors, including a little girl (you see where this is going?).
Romero proved himself a ruthless writer by wiping out the group, including a fiery, explosive death for one couple and a mother killed by another adorable little zombie. Eventually, Ben remains the final survivor and sees, to his relief, a rescue team in the morning. However, in a gut-wrenching ending that sparked a thousand essays on race, Ben is shot in the head, mistaken for a zombie and added to the pile in stills that eerily resemble lynching.
A deeply unsettling ending that cemented George A. Romero as an icon of horror.
