Here we have a cameo from a well-known classic. Alfred Hitchcock’s famous psychological horror follows the endeavours of Norman Bates who, having murdered his mother in the years prior, has developed split personalities for himself and his deceased parent.

The ‘Mother’ personality inside him is jealous and possessive of Norman and consequently murders any women he is attracted to. After killing a young woman who was fleeing after stealing forty thousand dollars, people come knocking asking about her whereabouts.

Questioning a mentally unstable murderer isn’t a good idea at the best of times and so of course more death ensues- but not the death of Norman himself. Instead he is subdued and later arrested by police, but not before the mummified corpse of his mother is discovered in his basement.

The film ends with Norman in a jail cell listening to his mother’s voice inside his head blaming him for the murders, safe and sound to return for sequels nobody watched.
