10 Horror Movies With Amazing Concepts But TERRIBLE Execution

3. They/Them

If They/Them's brilliantly clever title suggested it'd be a savage satirical takedown of LGBTQ+ conversion camps, it ended up falling far short of the mark.

As if conversion camps aren't terrifying enough, staging a slasher movie there is nothing if not a potential-rife concept with which to do something very different for the subgenre.

Yet even with three-time Oscar-nominated screenwriter John Logan (Gladiator, The Aviator, Hugo) at the helm, this is mostly a bust.

Most surprisingly of all, the screenplay is clunky and woefully on-the-nose, and the slasher elements are pared down for far too much of the movie, only fully materialising at the very end.

It's especially a shame given the enticingly sinister performance from Kevin Bacon as the villain running the camp, but even Bacon's efforts aren't nearly enough to make this messy, undercooked affair worth watching.

In cinema's pantheon of great movie titles wasted on awful movies, They/Them is right up there.
