10 Horror Movies With The Worst Monster Reveal
1. The Langoliers - The Langoliers
In this Stephen King adaptation, a group of passengers exit their plane, only to discover they've been frozen in time.
Worse still, the passengers learn they are at risk of being consumed by interdimensional entities called Langoliers. These cosmic beings' only means of sustenance is time, compelling them to devour the universe of the past. Because of this, the passengers realise the Langoliers will eat them and the space they occupy unless they return to their timeline.
Even though we don't see these Langoliers until the end, they are described in great detail. When we learn these organisms resemble hovering orbs with mandibles overflowing with fangs, you're expecting them to be the stuff of nightmares. Although the film is pretty boring, you are urged to watch it fully, just to get a glimpse of the titular villains.
But when the Langoliers finally make their grand entrance, you wonder why you wasted your time. Simply put, these creatures make special effects from the 1920s look like Gollum. These monsters are so badly rendered, you never believe they are actually there. Despite the fact the Langoliers could look scary, the badly textured VFX make them look like angry meatballs.
Although The Langoliers' design is sure to be something viewers never forget, it's not for the reason the filmmakers intended.
