6. Snapchat Filter Demon Face - Annabelle: Creation

Night Of The Living Dead 1990
Warner Bros.

Annabelle: Creation was for the most part a majorly pleasant surprise - a massively improved prequel to 2014's wretched Annabelle, yet there's one moment that even director David F. Sandberg admits falls rather flat.

Mid-way through the movie, young Janice (Talitha Bateman) is tormented by the demonic entity Malthus, who has taken the form of the human Annabelle (Samara Lee) who died years prior.

As Janice approaches Annabelle and asks her what she needs, Annabelle turns around to reveal her "horrifying" demonic face, which basically looks like a free Snapchat filter applied to actress Samara Lee's face.

To make the moment even more risible, Annabelle then shouts "Your soul!" in the most over-the-top, hammy way possible, conjuring more memories of Evil Dead and less of, well, The Conjuring.

But it's the awfully cheap-looking demonic face which truly kills the moment, enough that director Sandberg confessed on the movie's Reddit discussion that he was never fully happy with either the digital makeup or campy voice in this scene.
