The Movie

Loosely inspired by real life American serial killers Henry Lee Lucas and Ottis Toole, Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer is a brutal and bleak portrayal of people living on the very fringes of moral society.

It’s so brutal and realistic in fact that it took the BBFC until 2003, 17 years after it was made, to pass a fully uncut version and it’s been cited by psychiatrists as one of the most true to life cinematic depictions of psychopathy ever seen.

Why You'll Never Watch it Again

It’s not so much that the film is off-putting because its death scenes are too gory, it’s rather that they are sudden, frenzied, pure violence. There’s no stylish elements or glorification to the violence like some other horror films have. It’s just grim, disturbing murder and the fact that it has roots in real life events makes it all the more harrowing.
