10 Horror Remakes That Are Better Than The Original

8. The Hills Have Eyes (2006)

Every now and again, a horror remake comes along based on a film that actually deserves to be remade. Wes Craven's original The Hills Have Eyes is undoubtedly a classic, but time had not been kind to the story of these vicious, mutated cannibals, so French film director Alexandre Aja took on the unenviable task of updating the movie. Modern remakes often tone down the brutality in order to appeal to a wider demographic, but fortunately, Aja understood the appeal of the original Hills Have Eyes and actually ramped up the gore with a number of brutal set-pieces that stay with you long after the credits have rolled. There's one sequence in particular, where the mutants invade the family's caravan, which is one of the most harrowing scenes ever included in a widely released Hollywood movie. Unfortunately, Aja was unable to recapture the quality of The Hills Have Eyes with his subsequent remakes, Mirrors and Piranha 3D, so fans should instead seek out his phenomenal French-language movie Switchblade Romance from back in 2003. Saying that though, Piranha 3D did star Christopher Lloyd and Kelly Brook, so who are we to judge, right?
