10 Horror Remakes That Are Better Than The Original

7. Cape Fear (1991)

Both versions of Cape Fear follow a convicted rapist called Max Cady as he torments a family following the end of his incarceration in prison and both were critically acclaimed upon release. However, restrictions placed upon how dark the original movie could go back in 1962 were eased by the time Martin Scorcese took on the project in 1991, allowing for a more twisted take on the character of Cady. It's unusual for a director of Scorcese's caliber to tackle a high profile remake like Cape Fear, but the project was a resounding success, earning Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations for regular collaborator Robert De Niro and a young Juliette Lewis in a breakthrough performance. Morally disturbing scenes between De Niro and Lewis in particular freaked out audiences in a way that the original just couldn't explore due to the time frame in which it was made. Both versions of Cape Fear are certainly worth watching, but the remake's A-list talent and disturbing additions to the story make it ultimately superior to the original. Go watch it and enjoy... you sickos!
