10 Horror Remakes That Are Better Than The Original

6. House Of Wax (1953)

Don't worry. This is not a celebration of the 2005 remake starring Paris Hilton. That deserves its own special place on a list we like to call "Horror Remakes That Suck Beyond All Imagining". Instead, we're celebrating the classic Vincent Price version from 1953, which was itself based on Mystery of the Wax Museum from twenty years earlier. Taking inspiration from a range of sources including Frankenstein and The Phantom of the Opera, Andre De Toth's remake has plenty of fun with Price's deranged sculptor who delights in creating waxwork models using the bodies of people he's murdered. Eschewing the humor of the original film from 1933, House of Wax is mostly silly throwaway fun, but the moment Price's disfigured face is revealed still looks great even now, especially when compared to the more recent remake which we wish to avoid mentioning again if at all possible... because it's a truly awful remake... so don't see it, unless you're planning to gouge your own eyes out moments before the film begins and... argh! We mentioned it again!!!
