10 Horror Remakes You Didn’t Know Were Coming In 2019

5. Firestarter

The Grudge
Universal Pictures

The Original: One of the more inferior of Stephen King’s big screen adaptations, Firestarter starred a baby-faced Drew Barrymore as a telekinetic young whippersnapper with the ability to set things (and people) on fire with her mind who is on the run from a shady government organisation which includes Native American agent John Rainbird played by George C. Scott who is decidedly un-Native American.

The Remake: Talk of a remake began in early 2017 with Akiva Goldsman set to direct but things went suspiciously hush-hush after the sh*tshow that was fellow Stephen King adaptation The Dark Tower came out over the summer for which Goldsman penned the script.

Goldsman is also the mind behind the screenplays for Batman & Robin and The Da Vinci Code and produced King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (aka The Worst Movie Ever™) just to give you an idea of what kind of hands the Firestarter remake was initially in.

Luckily, things are looking up after the very recent announcement that Goldsman had bowed out of the project and handed over the reins to German director Fatih Akin who’s hot on the heels of accepting the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film for his most recent movie In the Fade.
