10 Horror Remakes You Didn’t Know Were Coming In 2019

3. Untitled Wizard Of Oz Horror Movie

The Original: Adapted from L. Frank Baum’s children’s book of the same name, the 1939 original is a classic of Hollywood’s Golden Age. Noted for its ground-breaking use of Technicolour, the magical musical fantasy is as celebrated today as it was back in the late 1930s with an enduring cultural impact that has influenced everything from Star Wars to LGBT culture.

The Remake: Proving absolutely nothing is sacred, New Line Cinema announced last spring they’d nabbed an untitled pitch by on-the-rise screenwriter Mike Van Waes that will see the much-loved classic rebooted as a horror movie.

As sacrilegious and strange as that may seem, The Wizard of Oz is full of nightmarish inspiration that could easily translate into an imaginative horror movie. Sure, the original movie isn’t a horror per se but you have to admit all those witches, talking trees and flying monkeys are pretty !*$% terrifying.

Things have been hush-hush since that 2017 announcement which is understandable. Taking on a classic like The Wizard of Oz and reimagining it in a totally different genre is no small task but done right and with the right director on board it could actually make for a really good horror film.
