While Don't Look Know is a horror/thriller masterpiece, there's a lot more going on under the hood than so many similar movies of the time.

Rather than the cut and paste formula used be so many of its contemporaries, Don't Look Know instead serves as an exploration of grief, with Laura and John Baxter comes to terms with the tragic death of their young daughter during the opening act of Nicolas Roeg's 1973 effort.

After the couple make a temporary move to Venice due to John's work commitments, they soon find themselves starting to think that maybe their deceased daughter isn't quite as dead as previously believed. In their quest for the truth, though, we get a conclusion that nobody was prepared for.

That conclusion is part of a final act that sees John chasing through the streets and back alleys of Venice as he pursues who he believes to be his daughter Christine. After finally confronting this figure, not only is it not Christine - it's instead a dwarf who slices John's throat with a meat cleaver.

All of the visions and imagery John has been seeing throughout his Venice stay? Rather than being of his daughter still being alive, these visions were instead John foreseeing his own murder.
