10 Horror TV Shows With Terrifying Surprises

9. Bullies - All Of Us Are Dead

It’s always when you think the zombie subgenre is finally dead that it reanimates, kicking and thrashing with new life. This series from South Korea did just that when it dropped on Netflix in January 2022.

Taking the tired ‘zombie virus’ trope and well, bringing it back from the dead, All of Us Are Dead is a fast-paced horror blood fest set in a school. Like a lovechild between Train to Busan and Battle Royale, it pitches plucky and determined youngsters at Hyosan High against hordes of vicious undead.

For the first few episodes, the source of the zombie outbreak is shrouded in mystery, but it is during the fourth episode that things become clearer.

At the beginning of the show, bullied teen Lee Jin-Su falls from a rooftop and is the first to transform into a zombie. His father, a science teacher at the high school called Byeong-chan, obviously notices his son’s change in behaviour (puberty, amirite?), but suspiciously locks another student away when she also exhibits the bitey and rotting sensibilities.

It is revealed that Byeong-chan himself created the virus, as he was so angry that his son was left completely defenceless against his bullies that he created a serum that he hoped would give his son superpowers. It sort of did?

We’re so used to seeing evil scientists being the reason for a zombie outbreak, but a father desperate to help his bullied son? Refreshing, and really painful.
