10 Horror TV Shows With Terrifying Surprises

2. Time Enough At Last - The Twilight Zone

The Haunting Of Hill House Bent Neck Lady Nell
CBS

This show is filled to the brim with legendary, eye-popping and pant-wetting plot twists. It was therefore really, really hard to choose just the one, with honourable mentions going to Five Characters in Search of an Exit, The Invaders, To Serve Man and Eye of the Beholder.

However our winner is Time Enough at Last, one of the bleakest stories in television history.

The plot follows a man called Henry. He has an ordinary life, a loving wide and a well-paid job. Something isn’t right though, as he is constantly berated for his love of reading. It borders on obsessive, as he bores everyone around him with plot points and useless facts about fiction. He’d do really well at WhatCulture to be honest.

He locks himself into one of the bank vaults to read in peace, only to read a headline in the newspaper about a nuclear bomb. The bomb goes off, knocking Henry unconscious and he awakes to find himself the last man on earth. This is, without a doubt, one of the worst fates that could befall a person.

However, Henry soon discovers that the library is undamaged, as are the books inside. Finally, he can read in peace for as long and he likes! But he trips on some rubble. His glasses fall of his face and shatter.

Henry cannot see without them, and so he cannot read. Watching Henry cry into an empty void of destroyed civilisations is, without a doubt, one of the most haunting images in fiction.
