It wouldn't be fair to make a list of 2002 horror video games without including the very worst of them: Demonworld: Dark Armies.

Based on the Warhammer-style German fantasy tabletop game Demonworld, Dark Armies loosely (very loosely) tells the tale of Jason Klingor, Commander and Imperial Advisor to the empire, who leads the Imperial Army's fight against Orks who threaten the fate of his homeland. Bold and original stuff.

A horror-inflected 2D strategy game released at a time when 2D strategy games had been finessed to a fine art, Dark Armies still manages to get it all wrong.

With simplistic and blocky graphics, an array of laughable stock sounds, confusing and overly complex controls, and AI units that invariably ping themselves around the map and get stuck in front of nothing, it is an all-but unplayable mess.

Released exclusively on the PC, and never seen again since, we should thank our lucky stars Dark Armies didn't crawl its way over onto consoles.
