10 Horror Video Games That Turned 20 In 2022

8. The House Of The Dead III

One of the all-time classics of real-world arcade gaming, The House Of The Dead series' third instalment hit arcades in 2002, giving players exactly what they payed for.

Set in 2018, 20 years after the Curien Mansion Case of the original game, the zombie infestation has spread, leading to the collapse of civilisation as we know it and, presumably, the mass-manufacturing of firearms and ammunition.

Players must arms themselves against the zombie horde in an effort to infiltrate the EFI Research Facility, which is now under the domain of a mutant known as Death (beginning a tarot theme that throws up such enemies as The Fool, The Sun and the Wheel of Fate).

Developed and published by Sega exclusively for arcades, the game was later ported to the Xbox in 2003, Windows in 2005, Wii in 2008 and PS3 in 2012, most of which featured their own light gun-style interfaces.

And, in case you want to get your classic arcade gaming fix in the flesh, Sega is still developing these games, with the most recent entry -- House of the Dead: Scarlet Dawn -- released in 2018.
