10 Horror Video Games That Turned 20 In 2022

7. BloodRayne

Clock Tower 3
Terminal Reality

BloodRayne was making vampires sexy in the South long before True Blood hit screens, and the series' inaugural game may well be one of the things that re-popularised the genre in the first place.

An action-horror hack and slash, BloodRayne begins in Louisiana, 1933, where players take control of half-human, half-vampire, all-leather protagonist Rayne to investigate an outbreak of an unidentified disease in the region.

Skipping ahead to the eve of WWII, in 1938 Argentina, players then have the pleasure of infiltrating several facets of the Nazi regime and killing a variety of goose-stepping ne'er-do-wells to try and prevent them from bringing Hitler into power using some shady mystical artefacts.

Developed by Terminal Reality, the game was released across GameCube, PS2 and Xbox in 2002, and its own success saw it expand and cross over to PC, comic books and the silver screen.

As with the majority of good things from 20 years ago, the game was remastered and re-released -- as BloodRayne: Terminal Cut in 2020 and BloodRayne: ReVamped 2021 -- for most major eighth and ninth generation consoles.
