Now that Spider-Man has joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a whole new selection of crossover titles is now available to Marvel Studios. One of the most intriguing options would be a filmic adaptation of Dan Slotts 2011 series Spider-Island, which saw cloning-obsessed villain the Jackal infesting Manhattan with genetically engineered super spiders, just like the one that made Peter Parker into Spider-Man. The result is that everyone gets spider-powers, while Jackal uses his own team of villains all disguised as Spidey - to commit crimes around the city. This bad guy team includes Steve Rogers Captain America, whom Jackal has forcibly mutated into a grotesque monster. Other Avengers get involved, trying to stop the newfound spider menace. But soon, the whole population of Manhattan begins transforming into gross creatures and the threat is worsened. Jackals mysterious benefactor, the Spider-Queen, siphons power from the city of spider creatures, transforming into a giant spider beast. It takes Spidey, Mary Jane, Cap, Venom and Kaine (Peter Parkers formerly-evil clone) to stop her. Spider-Island could make for a very fun crossover movie as a bit of down-time for the MCU. Its a little less Earth-threatening than Infinity War and lacks the dark political tones of Civil War. Perhaps, then, it could make a perfect breezy blockbuster to resettle the universe in Phase 4.
