10 Huge Movie Returns Nobody Ever Expected (THAT ARE FINALLY HAPPENING!)

7. Keanu Reeves As Constantine - Constantine 2

Electra Daredevil
Warner Bros.

Despite bringing in a pretty respectable $230 million at the box office against a $70-100 million budget, the generally mixed response to Keanu Reeves' first appearance as supernatural exorcist John Constantine in 2005 didn't suggest that a sequel would be landing on screens any time soon.

Reeves and director Francis Lawrence were both definitely open to the idea of a follow-up. But even as the flick began to grow into something of cult hit, it still didn't seem very likely that Warner Bros. would ever green light another round of demon mayhem with the titular DC anti-hero.

Reeves even confessed to trying and failing to get the sequel made (via EW).

However, the star was finally granted his wish in September 2022, as Deadline reported that both the leading man and his director were set to return to Constantine's world for a film that was now confirmed to be in development.

Sure, this exciting resurrection now appears to have hit a few speed bumps in the wake of James Gunn and Peter Safran kicking off a new DC era at Warner Bros.

But the sequel's screenwriter Akiva Goldsman noting (via The Playlist) how he's ready to start typing up the script just as soon as the current writer's strike comes to an end feels like another positive sign that one more improbable Reeves return will finally become a reality before long.
