We've known that Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 would be happening since early 2017, but we only recently got official confirmation that it would be coming in 2020.
Gunn - who wrote and directed the first and second films - is onboard for Vol. 3, which is only one of two Marvel Cinematic Universe movies announced for post-Avengers 4 (Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 being the other), which opens in 2019.
As a result, it's unlikely we'll hear anything substantial about the film until 2019 at the earliest; knowing too much about Vol. 3 could spoil the outcome of Avengers 4 before it even opens.
Regardless, it's assumed the core members of the Guardians will return, with Gunn telling Variety that Vol. 3 will be the final movie with this "iteration" of the team.
Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 is said to further expand the cosmic side of the MCU, so expect it to introduce several new characters and locales that will set up future movies.
