Star Wars is one of the best loved, most popular and most critically acclaimed movie-franchises of all time. After the success of episodes IV and V, George Lucas had to come up with a successful 'end' to the saga. He succeeded. While most people consider Return of the Jedi a slight dip in quality from the previous two films, it is still a very fine movie. The opening scenes, when Han Solo is freed from Jabba the Hut's ice-coffin, the space dogfights and Luke's final showdown with his father Darth Vader are all essential viewing. All this said, the Ewoks come really close to ruining the entire thing. Quite who thought it would be a good idea for little bears to take down the evil empire is anyone's guess. What could have been a majestic finale to one of the best movie sequences of all time should probably be reduced to satisfying conclusion or well-intended let-down. However, fans still love Return of the Jedi, and accept this flaw because it does everything else so well. They even accept the unsettling moral implications of finding out Luke and Leia are brother and sister.Good films really can get away with anything.
