10 Huge Problems You Consciously Ignore Because The Film Is So Good
8. Roman Polanski's Films - Polanski's Sex Trial
Roman Polanski is generally considered one of the greatest film directors of the last 50 years, and with good reason. He has directed such films as Rosemary's Baby, Chinatown and The Pianist - each a classic in three distinct film genres. In 1977, he underwent trial for the rape of a 13 year old girl at his house in Los Angeles. He was about to be sentenced to prison and deportation but fled the USA to France shortly before the conclusion of his trial. This leaves audiences with a bit of a moral dilemma. Do we reject a film because it was made by a bad person? Since he fled justice in the 70s, the popularity of Polanski's films have not declined, and The Pianist won several Oscars in 2002. It seems audiences and critics are willing to suspend their moral judgement if the quality of the movie is good enough. But are we implicitly approving his crimes each time we head to the cinema or buy a DVD? Difficult moral questions probably best not dealt with here.
