10 Huge Problems You Consciously Ignore Because The Film Is So Good
7. The Dark Knight - Batman's Voice
Here is an example of a cringe-inducing, slightly off-putting moment cinema-goers accept because they love everything else about the movie. When The Dark Knight was released in 2009 it was to much fanfare, and Heath Ledger's treatment of The Joker was heavily praised. Nobody quite knew what to make of Christian Bale's performance as Batman though. Clearly he's a great actor, but what's with the voice? Bale deliberately altered his voice to a low, husky rasp in order to disguise the identity of Batman when in costume, playing Bruce Wayne as he would any other character. It makes a lot of sense; Batman would be found out in a second if he spoke like one of the most famous people in Gotham. And yet there's still something grating about that voice. Even Christian Bale's wife thought it was stupid, while cartoon Batman actor Kevin Conroy also has a difficult time with this particular interpretation. Ultimately though, no one's come up with a better suggestion, and the movie's pretty awesome, so we might as well continue putting up with it.
