10 Huge Questions That Undermine Back To The Future

5. Is There Any Need For The Second Film Whatsoever?

...Following on from that exciting cliffhanger of an ending though, why are Marty and Jennifer even going with the Doc to 2015 in the first place? The Doc returns back to 1985, and tells Marty that his kids are in trouble. But why would going to 2015 solve anything? Why couldn't he write a letter, like Marty did? That worked, to an extent. Why doesn't he just tell him what's wrong? It's surely easier for both Marty and Jennifer to plan out what they're going to do, rather than heading straight to the eye of the storm to sort things there? Doc should take a leaf out of Marty's book. One minute he's against finding out things from his future, the next he's telling Marty all about his. (Okay, not "minute", thirty years' thought probably could change your viewpoint.) And anyway, doesn't Marty - or Jennifer for that matter - have anything to say about the fact they're married with kids in the future? Isn't that all a bit too committal for a pair of teenagers? Seriously, sort out your problems today, and they won't be there tomorrow. That's the best message this film can give you.
