10 Huge Recent Movie Moments That Fell Totally Flat

4. "Because You're Here" - The Strangers: Chapter 1

The original The Strangers is best remembered for the chillingly iconic moment late in the movie when a tied-up Kristen (Liv Tyler) asks the titular home invaders why they're doing what they're doing, to which masked killer Dollface (Gemma Ward) replies, "Because you were home."

It's a fantastically nihilistic one-liner that eschews the typical need for motive in favour of villains who are killing and torturing just for the sake of it.

And so, when the recent franchise reboot The Strangers: Chapter 1 was released, fans were left flummoxed by the decision to revise that unforgettable one-liner.

Though the setup is basically identical, this time around when Maya (Madelaine Petsch) asks the killers about their motive, Pin-Up Girl (Letizia Fabbri) tells her, "Because you're here."

It's a slight change but a notably deflating one, lacking the eerie punchiness of the original line and basically underscoring how this reboot is a totally lazy and listless retread of the original.
