10 Huge Recurring Problems The MCU Needs To Solve
1. Will The Bubble Burst Eventually?
Marvel Studios are currently in the midst of unprecedented success, a critical and commercial winning streak that has continued for almost a decade and taken the company from bankruptcy to Disney-owned cultural behemoth in just 20 years. History has shown that this kind of thing will only last for so long, so what happens when the bubble bursts?
Still yet to suffer a box office bomb, the average box office gross across all sixteen MCU movies is $778.3m, with four crossing the billion-dollar mark individually. Critically, Marvel's average Rotten Tomatoes score is an impressive 82%, with worst-reviewed entry Thor: The Dark World still holding a solid 66% on RT and 54 on Metacritic. No franchise has ever experienced that level of consistency, but how long can Marvel Studios keep this up?
The real test for the MCU comes when the box office returns start dropping, critics roundly savage their latest effort or one of their projects tanks at the box office. How the company reacts and rebounds from their first major setback will play a huge role in determining the approach going forward.
