10 Huge Recurring Problems The MCU Needs To Solve
2. Refusing To Evolve
Marvel Studios revolutionized the entire industry with the success of the MCU, changing the landscape of big-budget filmmaking forever. Now the most lucrative franchise in history, Marvel have remained ahead while watching rival studios launch cinematic universes left and right in a desperate attempt to catch up. With such an unassailable lead at the top of the blockbuster totem pole, there is every chance a little complacency could start to set in.
At this point, anything with the Marvel Studios label slapped on it is guaranteed to be a hit. If someone had told you ten years ago that a Doctor Strange movie would earn almost $700m at the box office and and Baby Groot would be a massive merchandise seller, you'd laugh. They even rebooted Spider-Man after just three years and made one of the best-reviewed movies of the year. Seemingly, the MCU can do no wrong.
With success virtually assured, it would be easy for Kevin Feige and company to rest on their laurels and continue to churn out solid-if-unspectacular superhero movies on a tri-annual basis. In the era of increasingly-generic franchises and dwindling box office returns for sequels, Marvel's priority should be the continued effort to expand and evolve their product to keep the fans invested in what comes next.
