10 Huge Sequels That Were Announced (And Then Just Disappeared)

9. Gump And Co.

You know the films that seem to be in a perpetual state of limbo? The ones that are promised to be finished by producers and writers alike, but never actually gain any solid ground? Gump and Co. is one of those films. This movie was to be based on a novel of the same name, which had been written by Winston Groom and published the year after Forrest Gump had made it's movie debut. The book itself received mixed reviews, partially due to the combining of Groom's original character and Tom Hanks' Forrest Gump in an attempt to appeal to the novel and film fans alike. Naturally the well-intentioned plan backfired, and we were left with a weak character who had been written into an even weaker plot. Nevertheless, Hollywood seemed determined that they would have the book adapted for film and finished by 2002, but when the attacks of September 11 occurred in 2001, the project was placed on hold with no return date in sight. The last we've heard of the adaptation was a 2007 announcement by Paramount that claimed they were still looking to move forward with the film. The premise of the film would have stayed true to the novel itself; with Jenny gone and Forrest now a single father, his shrimp business €“ Bubba Gump Shrimp Company €“ would eventually take a nosedive, subsequently causing the Gump boys to struggle through life. In the novel, Forrest's story had indeed been made into a film, and the attention it had garnered him has started to affect his life. What ensues is a whirlwind through history that is rife with real events and celebrity "cameos"; Forrest helps tear down the Berlin Wall, fights in Operation Desert Storm, meets Bill and Hillary Clinton, and even has the opportunity to come in contact with Tom Hanks himself. While the film could have been a recipe for disaster, there's nothing to say that it couldn't have been a huge success like its predecessor. Unfortunately €“ or thankfully, depending on how you choose to believe it would have fared €“ it doesn't seem like we'll get the chance to experience this sequel any time soon.
