In 2021, Spider-Man: No Way Home made the impossible possible. The movie brought together the Peter Parker of the MCU with the Raimi version and the Amazing Spider-Man version in what was one of the biggest moments of the entire franchise.

The very next movie on the MCU slate was Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and if No Way Home could bring back Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, just imagine what a movie literally titled the Multiverse of Madness could do.

There were countless theories and rumours about which characters could appear in the movie, whether from previous movie franchises or not, however one of the biggest was Superior Iron Man. Pretty much everyone went into the movie expecting to see Tom Cruise’s version of Tony Stark in the same way they knew Maguire and Garfield were coming.

Fuel was thrown onto this particular fire with a character appearing in the trailer that many thought was this new version of Iron Man. In reality, this was Maria Rambaeu’s Captain Marvel, and Tom Cruise was nowhere to be seen. Looking back at the trailer now, it's painfully obvious that this wasn't Tom Cruise, but fans will often believe what they want to believe when it comes to their theories.
