10 Hugely Successful Movies That Amazingly Never Got Sequels

5. The Sixth Sense

Box Office: $672,806,292 The Sixth Sense was a movie that came out of nowhere and hit audiences like a jolt of electricity; M. Night Shyamalan became the hottest young director in Hollywood overnight - earning a Best Director Oscar nomination at the mere age of 30 - a designation that caused the rest of his career (to date) to seem supremely disappointing by comparison. Though the film seemed rather self-contained, its runaway success caused murmurs of a sequel, and this reached a fever pitch in 2001, causing star Haley Joel Osment to speak out about it. In an interview, Osment declared rightly that the movie "does without a sequel", though it's important to remember that he said this when his career was in a boom period; he might be thinking a little differently now. Though likely too much time has passed for anyone to be interested in green-lighting a sequel, it's still a huge surprise that a low-rent follow-up - probably directed by someone other than Shyamalan and featuring a largely different cast - never abounded in the early 2000s.
