10 Hyped 2017 Movies That Will Definitely Disappoint You

8. Kong: Skull Island

Skull Island
Warner Bros.

The Hype: A reboot of the iconic monster intended to set up the upcoming Godzilla vs. Kong film, starring Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, John Goodman, Brie Larson, John C. Reilly and many more.

Why It Will Disappoint: Though Kong looks appropriately bada**, the visual effects are all over the place, and the trailer suggests an inconsistent tone, braced between being a serious action flick and something much sillier and campier (as evidenced by Reilly's character).

Everyone wants to love it, but honestly the first trailer is just "OK". It doesn't really distinguish itself from other monster movies in any major way, some of the big money shots look more cheesy than epic (the sweeping pan around the helicopter), and director Jordan Vogt-Roberts has no experience in big-budget filmmaking, which is the real worry.
