10 Hyped Movie Characters (That Did Absolutely Nothing)

2. Cheetah - Wonder Woman 1984

After Wonder Woman singlehandedly saved the DC Extended Universe (for a while,) it felt like the sequel couldn't arrive sooner.

When it was announced Wonder Woman 1984 would introduce the titular Amazon's arch-nemesis - Barbara Minerva, aka Cheetah (Kristen Wiig,) - the hype shot through the stratosphere. Since the action sequences were a massive highlight of the previous instalment, the comic book community expected an epic battle between Diana of Themyscira and her feline foe.

Unfortunately, the end result was far from purrfect. Kristen Wiig is serviceable in the role, but never comes across as intimidating. With Maxwell Lord serving as the main villain, Cheetah is relegated to the henchwoman spot and given little opportunity to shine.

Worst still, Minerva takes on her cat persona in one sequence. Her design is so bafflingly generic, it’s difficult to remember what she looked like.

Also, Diana and Cheetah's showdown takes place at night, making it nearly impossible to see what's going on. Based on how badly rendered Cheetah appears in close-ups, it feels like the scene was intentionally lit badly to hide her design.

Even though Cheetah could've been a truly terrifying villain, the weak script and poor visuals left her declawed and neutered.

Bad kitty.
