One of the greatest modern moments in Batman lore comes from Scott Snyder's epic Court of Owls storyline and acts as the second of its ilk to appear on this list. Wonderfully written and deliciously metaphorical, Bats finds himself trapped in a vast labyrinth under the crust of Gotham itself in an area he previously didn't know existed.

Down here, Bats is forced to face his greatest foe: himself. Never before has Batman been so stripped bare, and forced to face a foe so large and unknowable while also being revealed to himself in an entire single issue so cerebral, interactive and well written that when it ends, you find you're actually holding the book itself upside down... chills.

To see a director tackle this iconic modern moment would be incredible and in the right hands, it could be one of the greatest moments ever captured in Batman's illustrious cinema history.
